Simple Sugar Cookies

Simple Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are welcome at any table. They can be decorated for the occasion and are enjoyed by both the young and the old. They are like the lovable, sweet child that you always want around.

They are simple to bake, easy to eat and great for decorating.

This easy sugar cookie recipe has become my staple for any occasion.

Pictured here is a mixture of sugar cookies and gingerbread. But have fun with it. Mix it up, add your favourites. There’s no wrong answer if you are enjoying yourself.

MUSIC: Dolly Parton (Dumplin’ Soundtrack)

INGREDIENTS

2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
fg* salt
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS

Set oven to 325˚

STEP 1 - Mix the first 3 ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.

STEP 2 - In a separate bowl combine the butter and sugar.

STEP 3 - Add egg, milk and vanilla into the butter mixture and blend.

STEP 4 - Add the flour mixture into the butter mixture and stir to combine.

STEP 5 - Wash your hands, roll up your sleeves and combine the mixture. until well blended.

STEP 6 - Place in the fridge for at least 1 hour. (It's fine to leave in overnight. Just be sure to remove it from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for at least 1/2 hour before rolling.

STEP 7 - Roll the dough and cut out with your choice of a cookie-cutter. Place on a baking sheet and place in the oven for approx. 10 minutes (or until the edge begins to golden). Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack. Repeat until there is no more dough ;)

Now once cooled and you want to decorate. I usually go with about 1 1/2c. icing sugar to 4 tbsp. milk. Now that is what I find gives me a controllable icing to decorate with. Use your discretion on this. Then watch your beautifully decorated cookies disappear within minutes. The prettier they are the faster they will go.

Happy decorating.
