'bougie' drinking chocolate

'bougie' drinking chocolate

You need not be a French aristocrat to enjoy this rich drinking chocolate. Thicker than hot coca, this drips decadence and will surely change your winter beverage indulgence priorities.

MUSIC Chet Baker Sings

1 bar dark chocolate 70%
1 orange (zest)
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 c. Half & half cream
Half vanilla bean (or a capful if vanilla extract)

Place zest from one orange into brown sugar.
great tip: With clean hand rub orange zest into sugar.
This gets the oils from the orange infused into the sugar.

Break apart chocolate. You can grate it on a box grater or place in ziplock bag and rid yourself of all your frustrations by throwing the ziplock bag against the counter.

Place in small pot.

Add milk, ‘orange’ sugar and vanilla to chocolate and set to medium heat. Stir frequently until chocolate melts.

Once melted you can gauge the following based on preference.

thickness: add additional cream or milk based on preference. Ideally it is to be enjoyed much thicker than the hot cocoa* that we have become accustomed to however if that is your preference just add more cream or milk until you reach you desired consistency.

sweetness if 70% is too bitter or not your preferred taste you can add addition sugar (white or brown) until it is.

Let this be the guide to your creation.

Top with whip cream, candied orange or orange slice.
